Romford Town Official Website

Week 1 - RTFC Vs Scorpions

RTFC - 4 Vs Scorpions - 8

The Towners began their 7th Season Campaign with excitement and expectancy but for their first game it wasn't to be.

The game started promisingly, the Towner players doing well to play the ball around and Crane was taking care of any long range boomers that came flying in with an array of superb saves.

The towners made the first half their own with some superb tackling at the back with the usual crunching efforts from Leonard, taking no shit from any of the fine footwork on display from the opposition.  Many a chance came for Lenny to join the attack though and some top passing came into play with the likes of Hammond and Davies in support.

Toms return to the Town was a welcome one and was as the centre of many a play.  The mainstay in midfield tried many a trick but was frustrated by incoming tackles from the opposition.

It was Roger Dogs though who was the trail blazer in the first half with a double salvo of two goals to give the Towners a commanding lead.  His second saw Dogs turn on a sixpence and rifle in a classic shot to bury into the bottom corner.  It was a joy to watch as the excitable Dogs span round and lifted a hand in the air to celebrate to complete his two goals in two minutes.

Roger Dogs was extremley proud to be the Towners Top Goalscorer

When the whistle came to signal the end of the first the Towners discussed the current situation and all agreed that more of the same was required to take the win.

Unfortunately it wasn't to be.  In the second The Scorpions seemed to come out as a different team and to be honest so did the Towners.  The Towners ran out of gas a little bit and the Scorpions took advantage.  The young opposition raced the ball around the pitch and kept running, sending speedy boomers in the direction of the Romford Town goal.  Crane had done well to make the saves he did in the first but this time the shots were closer and more accurate and it wasn't long before they overtook the Towners.

"Ta da!" Oh ref! It's Hammond!

The Towners let more of the same continue despite more efforts from Murrell, Hammond and Davies and never came back as the deficit grew and they ran out of time.

The final whistle blew and the game ended a dissappointing 8-4 to the opposition.

Personal Ratings

Roger Westwood - Roger played a fantastic all round game on the night and took the two fantastic goals which make him top goalscorer.

Tom Davies - Tommy played a good game but was frustated to see many a shot go wide tonight.  Some excellent passing was on display from Tommy and his tackling was right up there too.

Steve Hammond - Had a quieter than usual game but still took a goal away.  A lot of shots were saved for Steve which usually came after some excellent skill in the middle of the park.

Paul Crane - Had a wicked night in goal, was a shame to see too many slip past the Crane in the second but none of the blame could have been placed in his capable hands.

Stuart Leonard - Had an excellent game at the back, many a crunch to speak of which saved the deficit from being a lot more than it was.  Some good passing during the game led to a good few attacks.

Rickee Murrell - Frustrating return to the Town not to get on the scoresheet but it wasn't for the want of trying.  Their keeper seemed up to a lot on the night but there you go.

Please Note:  Each Towner will be due to pay £8 on the next game which will include this weeks administration fee.  Thanks.
