RTFC - 2 Vs Grim 'n' Evils - 1

The Romford Town faithful marched out onto the ruins of pitch 3 last night for a battle of biblical proportions.  Struggling at 6th in the league, goalie injured and just 6 men all together as a result, the Towners had something to prove last night as well as the restoration of a reputation, damaged by losing to league scummers Hi Sue Utd and Jeff FC.

Biding his time for his exhalted return to outfield play, Jones took to the bench as the game kick off went to Grim 'n' Evils.  They started as the Towner expected but Romford Town were equal to it on every attack, rushing to get goal side and block any shots or forward passing options.  McGhee started in goal and when first tested began a night of important saves between the sticks.

Before long things were switched around and it was Grim 'n' Evils who were on the back foot as Stevey Hammond steamed down the left side of the pitch to whip in a low cross to Danny Monteith who's power boomer was just a little too high as it cannoned back off the cross bar.  What a goal it would have been if it would have gone in.

Danny decided to practice for the big fag smoking championships

As the game continued Grim 'n' Evils frustration began to show as they found themselves closed down at every opportunity.  The Towners were defending superbly with Dogs and Hammond holding things tight at the back with McGhee calling the game.  Communication, confidence and pure Towners devotion was on the up as they played the team that clinched the second place spot from them last season just 5 weeks ago.

The Towners had their fair share of attacks though, Jones's entry to the game was immediately evident as he moved to the back to bolster the defence and picked up the ball just outside on Towners step-in keeper John McGhee.  A dazling display of tricks and runs led the Grim 'n' Evil players astray as none could stop the onslaught of Jones's buttocks as they moved with him up the pitch.  Nearing the end of his run Jones found enough space to slip a shot in but it was deflected by the desperate leg of the opposition defence.

Later in the game Jones wasn't finished as another dazling run led him to a similar position, this time with more space for the shot and just the keeper to beat the Towners AM popped one across goal, destined for the bottom left hand corner but unfairly pinged off the post and back out to the Grim 'n' Evils players waiting.

The hard work of Romford Town finally paid off though as seemingly fully fit, Monsier Hammond ripped off a shot to punish Grim 'n' Evils as it flew into the back of the net.  More drama came though when Towners token dumb bloke Murrell decided to go diving into his own area to save a ball, clearly being taken care of by McGhee, and get penilised for a penalty.  Well, not really it was just on the edge of the area but the ball was definately at least partly in the area when Murrells touch game the break the Grim 'n' Evil players had been waiting for.

McGhee shaped up ready to use anything to stop that bastard ball from going over the line as the Grim 'n' Evils penalty taker (some scouse) decided to have a run up longer than the pitch to take the penalty, reminded by the ref it was one step, he soon came back from the run he was planning to make from the car park to stand a step away from the ball.  All Grim 'n' Evil players have a fierce shot and it was obvious that this one was gonna be a screamer.  As the laces slapped against the ball, McGhee dived the right way and made the difference as the ball pinged like a rocked off the post and onto the bullet head of John McGhee to stay safely in the area for McGhee to take control of and hastily roll out to Murrell, who was already halfway up the pitch when he uncomfortably took the ball in his stride and shot to be denied by the cross bar.  Hats off to John McGhee for continuing an epic performance in goal.

"Well, I see the ball and went like this to stop it from going over the line."

The game contined as Roger Dogs proved inspirational as he had a good few goes at goal, Grim 'n' Evils luckily able to deny the talents of Rogers magnificence.  He made up for it though on countless occasion, tussling for the ball and continuing last weeks fine performance to usually come out on top.  A few good passes came from Rogers boot up the middle of the park, leading to some good Towner opportunities.

It was Hammond again though who was to take the game further when a free kick was awarded to the Towners on the edge of the area, hastily taken he curled a quick shot into the top right hand corner off the post while the Grim 'n' Evil players were still debating with the ref.

Late in the game with around 5 minutes to go they clawed one back but it wasn't enough as the Towner devotion and McGhee's top goalkeeping weren't letting anything else through on a night when revenge was to go the Towners way and game finished with Grim 'n' Evils beaten 2-1.

Towners reputation after beating top of the league runaways = Restored.

Player Ratings

John McGhee - Absoloutley superb in goal, and the most important factor in keeping the goals conceeded low.  Excellent work on the penalty but who could forget some excellent communication and insightful rolls out to his fellow Towners, well done John, well deserved.

Stevey Hammond - Also deserving of Man of the Match with an inspirational return to top form with some excellent passing, runs, dribbling and shots but most importantly the two goals that gave the Towners the win.  Quality night for Steve.  Goals - 2.

Chris Jones - Oh ref!  The return of kings, reminiscent of Trevor Sinclairs first game for West Ham all those seasons ago.  The tireless work rate and organisation of his fellow players shone through in this huge game.  Some quality runs and shots, just unlucky not to take a goal from the game.

DMK - A superb game for Dan again, with his new found fitness allowing him to get involved at every opportunity with more precise skill and some excellent shooting chances, made possible by his runs into space.

Roger Dogs - More praise to Dogs aswell, it was an excellent night for all players but Rogers obviously developing his game into a more Henry orientated affair, was it just me that saw his daring dribbling display up the middle of the park to finally lay it inside for me?  Well done Rog.

Rickee Murrell - Quite pleased with meself after that one, sorry about the penalty lads, Jones made me do it.  Didn't get on the scoresheet but by god did I try.  I'll be back next week :)  Watch out Hammond.
