RTFC - 11 Vs Edmundsons - 5

Another night of excellent Romford Town football kicked off with Romford Town very much in the driving seat for huge parts of the game.  The wideboy Lenny Leeson made another glorious return to the line up as did hitman Stevie Hammond.  DMK also returned to the team after being ill on the previous week and the debut of Tommy D's was a welcome change as he moved into goal for the crunch match against Edmundsons.

The start of the game was as promising as the rest for Romford Town as they started well, Tommy D's the obvious difference to the amount of noise on the side of Romford Town.  From the off Tommy was organising the defence and ordering forward runs, something that paid off well as it wasn't long for Romford Towns first, sorry I mean Hammonds first! as they took the lead with some excellent play.

Cranes support for Romford Town and the game itself was starting to faulter.

The game continued as Romford Town continued to play some superb football, moving it around the pitch like a delicate egg.  The passes and footwork were sublime, even stalwarts like Roger Westwood and Rickee Murrell having their moments on the ball.  It was Lenny and Hammond that were helping to create the magic, Leonard crunching away at the back and Hammond have a rip-roaring performance up front.

Continued pressure resulted in Hammond notching up more and more supergoals in the first half.  The rest of his team-mates wanted to play as well but he wouldn't let up.  Romford Town were hot stuff and were performing against a decent team as Hammond centrally linked up with other players on the pitch to play the ball around a hapless opposition.

The absence of Ben Brace was a shame but the Towners were on a roll.  As half-time came upon them, Romford Town were depending on continuing more of the same super-football well into the second half, just like the previous week.

Into the second half Westwood was doing well to dispossess opposition players out on the right then feed the balls into the middle of the pitch for DMK and Hammond to apply the finish.

As DMK came forward though, he found the keeper equal to all his efforts as he failed to penetrate the back of the net.  Redemtion came though as he pounced at the right time in the right place so send one past the Edmundson keeper.  Hammond was making the most of the night, running rings round confused defenders.

Edmundsons were getting frustrated, finding it hard to believe they were losing so badly to a team they had given a decent match in previous weeks.  Their second half started better though, giving them incentive to come forward and attack after an initial goal by them from the off.

It was the Towners though who decided to shine in the second as they took the game to the tormentees.

Murrell's runs continued to take defenders out of the game allowing Hammond to come forward and punish some more.  Taking his chances well Stevie Hammond evenetually managed to notch up a superb count of 9 goals for the one and only Romford Town.  Although such a performance was taking Romford Town up in the confidence department it was to be over-shadowed by that rare thing that has only occured twice in two seasons of professional 5-a-side football.

Roger Dogs had had previous chances in the game but it was time to take one and steer it into the back of the net as it was time for Hammond to assist Rog in scoring a lovely goal for the Towners.  Dogs came forward on that trademark right side, Hammond taking care of bringing the ball forward as he passed up to dogs who was positioned slightly to the right but in front of the goal after coming inside.  No mistake was made as Rog curled the ball into the bottom far corner to notch another Roger dogs classic on a night of another Romford Town victory.

The dogs took the match ball, man of the match and a sublime goal

11-5 the final score and Towners worked well on a celebrated night of superb football.

Player Ratings

Roger Westwood - That man dogs, showing us all what it means to be a true Romford Towner.  Have a brilliant game, setting up a lot of goals and excellent chances for his team mates, crunching into players in crazed acts of dispossesion and top it all off with a well taken goal, leaving the gaffer proud to say that Roger Westwood is this weeks deserved Man of the Match!

Steve Hammond - A top game on a night when he made all the difference.  Taking more chances than usual to convert his total goal tally to an amazing 21 goals this season for the one only cause fitting of such dedication and class, Romford Town.

Stuart Leonard - The crunch man himself playing well but not getting the goal he so deserved and came close to taking.  Always a pleasure to see Lenny crunch and slam players into submission and lay off quality passes when attacking.

DMK - The man had his moments this week with more patented DMK footwork and improved passing.  Was unlucky not to take more goals from the game but took one home for the Towners.

Tom Davey - A wicked performance in goal which made a huge difference to the performance out on pitch.  Some lovely saves and a couple of mistakes but redeemed with some excellent communication throughout the whole game and excellent vision to bring players into the game via the roll-out.

Rickee Murrell - You're supposed to be a forward mate, score some goals or you're off team.
